5 Ways to Reduce Your Shipping Costs

By: Ken Peters

Are you interested in reducing your shipping costs? If so, chances are that you are just like hundreds of other companies in the world today. The fact of the matter is that if you can spend less money on shipping, your profits will be more. And this is especially true for those companies that ship a lot of items day in and day out. Unfortunately, far too many companies never look into the ways that they can reduce shipping costs.

Here are five ways to reduce shipping costs. They may not all work for you or your company, but they should at least put you on the right path to saving time and money.

1. To reduce costs, try to cut back on the number of times that you ship. If you can hold back a day to add more items to your truckload, you will be able to cut back on costs. Of course, this will not always work, but it is something to consider; especially if you are not up against tight shipping deadlines.

2. Reducing the weight of your items is one sure fire way to save on costs. This is not always easy, but as you may know it is more than possible. Look into changing your shipping methods if you want to keep your costs down.

3. Compare carriers. Does it get any easier than that? Remember, you do not have to use the carrier that you have been doing business with for the past decade. The fact of the matter is that things change, and if you find a new carrier with cheaper prices you should give them the chance to earn your business. Just make sure that you are not compromising quality.

4. Find out if there is a way that you can do without shipping certain items. Many companies think that they have to ship items, but all in all, this is not always the case. If there is a way around being required to ship. If you do need to ship smaller freight loads of items, look into LTL shipping.

5. Find a company that will give you a discount based on the amount of items and regularity that you ship them. This may not be easy to find, but some companies are willing to set up a special plan with you if you can guarantee them a certain amount of business.

As you can see, there are many ways that you can reduce your shipping costs. Remember, anything that you can do to save will improve your bottom line.
